“Hammerstein: Stories and Songs” featuring Will Hammerstein

The historic Newtown Theatre and On Demand! present this special part/talk/part music program featuring Will Hammerstein III, the grandson of Oscar Hammerstein II. Will will be sharing stories of his grandfather in Bucks County. Pianist Marc Sherman and vocalist, Jill Salkin, will perform some of the most well-known songs from Rogers and Hammerstein’s extensive repertory. This time, her two young daughters Nora and Patsy (ages 8 & 9) join the bill to serve you some of your favorite Great American Songbook selections. Through song and story, Jenny will share some heartfelt tales of the tremendous joys and sometimes struggles of being a showbiz family. But she says one thing is for certain: “We’re Together Wherever We Go!”

Nationally recognized baritone vocalist, Keith Spencer and award-winning composer, arranger and pianist, Peter Hilliard, team up once again to present a special concert event celebrating Black History Month, Lord, Write My Name.

Lord, Write My Name is a musical tapestry of African American Spirituals interspersed with narratives, poetry, and letters penned by freed Slaves and iconic Black figures throughout history. This inspirational journey explores slaves’ mourning in servitude, the redemptive story of the Gospel, and ultimately, reclaimed identity as a freed people.

In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, we are partnering with Hopewell Theater to present “That Old Black Magic,” featuring baritone showman, Keith Spencer. The performance is an entertaining, bluesy and sentimental tribute through some of the most-recognizable standards of the American Songbook brought to life by African American greats, Nat “King” Cole, Sammy Davis, Jr., Billy Eckstine, and Johnny Hartman.
